October

The candlelight flickers more
And more, and even the house
Seems to tremble in the chilly air.
The days grow short as a
Darker, like blue-violet.
The flower petals bloom to the
Ground, and the stems wither
Into crackling leaves, then
Under the dirt, like pigs
Covered in mud for protection.
The spiders are nesting together
Looking for warm places to web.
Seeing them sends shivers
Dow your spine, and
Reminds you that the
Creepy-crawlies in your head,
Howling and whispering "BOO!"
Are getting ready for Halloween.
And then, you smell the
Sweetness of pumpkin pie, and
Candy corn in the fresh air of fall,
And you remember that
October brings a season of
Feelings and excitement.

Thank you! Mattie J.T. Stepanek
